Below is his Artist Statement:

‘Sean Lande is a Vancouver-based photographer whose work centers on capturing the architecture of both humankind and nature through a surreal perspective.
Sean’s photographs represent a fleeting moment, the arrival and passing of time that can never be repeated. With a combination of creativity and luck, the artist’s perspective of a given moment can be transmitted to a viewer, and it’s that elusive instant that Sean seeks to capture.
As a child, Sean’s medium was paint, pencil, and ink as he tried to emulate the work of Ted Harrison, whose
unique takes on familiar natural scenes spoke to Sean. Painting gave way to making music in his teens, but Sean’s desire for self-expression was unchanged.
The sights of Europe granted Sean a new perspective of the world when he toured that continent as a guitar
player. It was then that he first attempted to transmute his experience with his surroundings into photographs.
Since then, photography has become Sean’s primary means of creative communication. The long study of a
subject and the solitude required to observe and reflect on a scene make the process of creating images something close to Sean’s heart. The hallmarks of his work are permutations of shape, shadow, and symmetry, providing a fresh view of otherwise familiar scenes.
Sean is a deeply nostalgic person. His attempts to preserve experience and express a sense of his place in the world are born more of necessity than desire. Each photograph is a memento of a singular and unrepeatable encounter with an ever-changing world.
If the camera lens, the environment and the artist’s eye work in harmony, then something illusory and ephemeral may be passed along to others. In that instant, the vastness of the world, the immensity of time, and the smallness of an individual life combine to produce something new. Those moments are what compels Sean to keep doing what he loves.’

thesartorialist

We have an addiction to Scott Schuman’s blog The Sartorialist, where he captures the beautiful people of Paris, Milan and New York,  in the most beautiful clothing and incredible light.  In his stunning new book, Scott has compiled his favourite images with insightful commentary for a delightful inside look at the fashionistas of the world.

Our friend and ex-Cross staffer Fiona from Sydney, sent us this chart for a giggle…and we had to share it with you!how-to-get-shot-by-sartorialist3
